"Truth" can be deceptive. It depends upon perception, knowledge and what constitutes "proof". Mechanistic science insists "seeing is believing" -- that is, confirmation by sensory detection defines reality. Yet some phenomena must be believed to be seen. We strive to be the thinking, feeling person's favorite haunt, providing a paranormal powertool to foster ongoing adventures in discovery, historical intrigue and personal experience.

"We wish to pursue the Truth no matter where it leads. But, to find the Truth we need imagination and skepticism, both. We will not be afraid to speculate, but we will be careful to distinguish speculation from fact." --Carl Sagan

"I've been a member for 3 years. Good place to find interesting haunts and knowledgeable people. Excellent investigation pictures and write ups." --Cliff, October, 2009

"Knowledge is more like a stream than a lake, and sharing it does not decrease it." --Zaitsev

Haunts

Kings Park Psychiatric Center

Kings Park (Hamlet in Smithtown), Albany County, New York
AKA: KPPC
FKA: Kings Park State Hospital
AFKA: Kings Park Asylum

BRIEF: "a white humanoid ghost that chases people"

SUMMARY: Stories of torture abound but not all of them are founded in fact. A place like Kings Park may seem creepy and it may make people think that something shady is going on. One rumor states that there are secret rooms in the tunnels where patients were beaten, tortured, and who knows what else. There is even a set up in the basement of a building where a cement block was supposedly slammed into patients while seated on a chair. This picture on the right was probably set up afterwards by explorers for effect. From photos we have received and stories from fans we believe every corner of the tunnels to have been explored by contributors to our site and there are no secret torture chambers. Most of the tunnels look just like the second photo on the right. They were used for steam. This is not to say of course that no mistreatment of patients ever occurred, it did happen. There are always odd people in any system that will corrupt it. Patient abuse is just as likely to take place in a dayroom than in the tunnels, also keep in mind the active tunnel would be over 100 degrees. --lioddities.com
