BRIEF: Fearful river crossings with a river wraith. SUMMARY: Piney Bottom is the location for numerous sightings of a headless man dressed in black walking the area. One account happened many years ago. At the first creek crossing there used to be a thing that jumped on the back of horses as people rode through. It would ride with the unlucky traveler until the horse reached the other creek crossing. It would then jump off the horse. BRIEF: Falling objects in a small stairway SUMMARY: Some hotel guests reported hearing the sound of beating on the floor while in the lobby. They decided to locate the noise. This was the beginning of what turned into an ongoing pursuit. BRIEF: A bloody Civil War battle. SUMMARY: The Wheatfield was one of the bloodiest battle scenes during the Civil War. People have heard the sounds of a battle being fought at this location. BRIEF: A deal with the Devil; a bad ending in a mine. SUMMARY: Big Bill Hurley, an evil coal miner purportedly dealt with the devil for super natural powers. Now more than one hundred years after his caved-in death by entombment some say they can still hear his whistling and the rumble of his big feet down deep in the mine near Frostburg, and they still fear the ill-begotten fortunes which surrounded Big Bill.
