"We wish to pursue Truth no matter where it leads. But, to find Truth we need imagination and skepticism, both. We will not be afraid to speculate, but we will be careful to distinguish speculation from fact." --Carl Sagan

There is no such thing as absolute "proof"; there is only evidence to support theories and beliefs. It's different for every person, every instance; how much evidence do you require to believe things are not what they seem?

"We foster an environment of constructive peer review, the philosophy being the more active members out there thinking, observing and collecting evidence, the more likely someone is to produce something substantial and the more we all collectively learn. Another way to look at it: Every family has an eccentric member or two; we're the place where all those folks can collectively hang out and feel at home."
BRIEF: A bizarrely twisted story SUMMARY: Silas and Bess Hacker ran a funeral service for the community. They used their grandfather's old mansion as their home and office.
Mr. and Mrs. Grimm were their butler and housekeeper. They lived together in the old family home for many years. But, the family home was quite small, and showing a great deal of wear. The family was expecting a new baby, so she wanted a larger home for her family. They decided to built a new home.
They hired William Anderson, an architect who had built many of the finest homes in the area.
William, however, had become obsessed with dark forces. He started experimenting with building designs that focused dark energies. He wanted to help spirits to cross over into our dimension. Anderson's designs became infamous throughout the psychic world. He built homes such as the Amityville and the Hill House. The Hacker House became one of the strange homes. BRIEF: "There are bodies lying all over the road." SUMMARY: "There are bodies lying all over the road." That was my voice on the 911 tape.
A head-on, high-speed collision occurred in 1993 at the point where Clopper Rd. turns underneath the power lines. I watched it happen with an unobstructed view in my rearview. One car crossed the center line and impacted an oncoming car. The crosser was a small silver Honda Accord; the other was a dark, late model sedan. BRIEF: An old jail bars many secrets SUMMARY: The old jail was built in 1892 and housed prisoners for over 70 years. The upstairs contains the original iron-bar cells.
The jail is now a museum that exhibits antique toys, woodcarvings, Victorian clothing, photographs and historical information. The museum is a replica of the County's colonial courthouse of 1749. The museum also contains artifacts from the Appomattucks and Monacan Indians. Information on Sir Thomas Dale's English settlement of 1611 and the 18th century French Huguenot settlers can be found here. Items from the Revolutionary War are on display.
