BRIEF: Colonel Lewis loves his old home SUMMARY: Kenmore was built in 1752 as a wedding present for Colonel Fielding Lewis' bride, Betty Washington Lewis, George Washington's sister. Built during the Revolutionary War, Kenmore became Colonel Fielding Lewis' home.
Lewis owned the Fredericksburg Arms Manufactory company but lost much of his fortune when Virginia's government did not reimburse him fairly. Lewis died in 1781 and the estate was sold. BRIEF: This gives new meaning to reliving the past. SUMMARY: A ghostly woman haunts this section of road. If you stop your car there after 2am you may have the pleasure of seeing this ghostly woman. While you are siting there, you will notice a pair of headlight pulling up behind you but there will be no sounds of a car. The ghostly woman will get out of her car and walk up to see if you are alright. When she starts to walk to her car, she and the car will vanish. People believe the woman was murdered on this spot: Her car may have broken down and the person who came and offered help murdered her. BRIEF: A bear can do serious damage. SUMMARY: An historic, small stone house at the corner of Seven Locks Rd. and River Rd. (between I-495 and the Cabin John Firehouse) is all that now remains of what was once a very large expanse of land known as "Magruder's Honesty." (A.K.A. Beall's and Magruder's Honesty.) Maryland State land records show various owners of various subdivisions of the land, beginning before 1783. There is at least one ghost legend attributed to the land, but, as the house has been sealed up (with a plaque out front) for some years, it has not been recently verified. BRIEF: A castle built on the side of Warm Springs Ridge overlooking Berkeley Springs WV SUMMARY: The castle was built by wealthy Maryland businessman Samuel Taylor Suit for his young bride, Rosa, in 1885. Rosa spent the family silver on throwing lavish parties and died in poverty. It is thought her spirit still lurks in the castle, a faded shell of its former grandeur.
