SUMMARY: In 1985, George Reynolds moved into an old, vacant, two-story house in Elk Mills. The home was in need of extensive structural repair because of years of neglect. Although Reynolds lived in the house by himself, he soon discovered he wasn't alone. Unknowingly, when he took possession of the home, he got more than he bargained for. The dwelling came complete with plenty of closet space, large bedrooms, a good piece of property and ghosts. While restoring the house, he slept on a cot in the living room. His first eerie experience happened in a nearby room where Reynolds said Hannah Simpers, the former owner, had spent some of her last days. Simpers, who never married, was born and raised in the home. The 70-year-old Reynolds believes she was the first of several frightening spirits he encountered. One night he went to bed only to be disturbed by an inexplicable event. Somewhere around two to three o'clock in the morning, I'd hear all these crazy noises out there, like somebody stomping and thumping and walking around," Reynolds said. The noises continued at the same time each night, taxing Reynolds' sanity. His next brush with the supernatural was a preexisting problem. Hannah Simpers had been tormented by it, too. "Every night, almost near the same time, two to three in the morning, somebody would beat on the back door and knock on the back side door next to this little room where Hannah slept. When he answered the door no one was ever there. BRIEF: A yearly whipping... SUMMARY: Lansdowne is a section of Baltimore. Lansdowne was once called the English Consul. Built in the 1700's, the old Mansion house sits atop a hill. William Dawson was the first English Consul of Maryland. He owned the mansion called the Consul House. BRIEF: Several buildings, several hauntings. SUMMARY: The UMBC campus was formerly part of Spring Grove property, and you can almost always feel something strange in the air. It was a farm owned by the hospital that was used to grow food.
Spring Grove was one of the nation's first mental institutions. The college had problems with Spring Grove patients wandering onto UMBC campus. The campus was not only haunted by the live patients but also by a few ghosts. BRIEF: The basement of Reeder Hall (which currently houses the university's administration and President as well as the Honors Dorm) is haunted.
