SUMMARY: Deep in the woods, within the Dickerson Conservation Park, under the shadow of the smokestack, there is a dilapidated wooden shanty. John Wilkes Booth's ghost is spotted at locations around Maryland. He has been spotted at Pope's Creek by fishermen who have seen it sneaking along the water's edge. Apparently, Maryland being a "swing state" in the Civil War with split allegiances, the southern counties (such as Charles County) tended to, perhaps not "harbor" fugitives but at least look the other way. Such was the case, reportedly, with JWB after he shot Lincoln.
