BRIEF: A cool escape tunnel! SUMMARY: The House is located on the corner of Second and Rosemount in Frederick. The ghosts of Joseph and Elias Brunner haunt this, one of the oldest houses in town. They are the ones who built the house in 1750. Their voices, with a distinctive German accent, are still heard within the house as well as their footsteps.
A tunnel once ran from the house all the way to the creek. Joseph built the tunnel as an escape route for the family in case of Indian attack. BRIEF: An old world Scottish castle, in the new world. SUMMARY: Now over 160 years old, the castle was built in 1840 as a replica of a Scottish Castle. The Castle was puchased in the past by a man named Ramsay who was from Scotland. He lived in the beautiful castle until 1930 when he lost it along with his money just before the Great Depression; the castle was quickly repossessed. Ramsay is buried in Mount Savage. BRIEF: DC's first public hospital SUMMARY: In 1806, the first public hospital in Washington was established in a square between 6th and 7th Streets, and M and N Streets, NW. Called Washington Infirmary, it provided for "the poor, disabled, and infirm persons." In 1842, Congress authorized the conversion of the old jail in the Judiciary Square into a hospital for disabled seamen and soldiers and the insane. Two years later, however, Congress decided that the building was not suitable for that purpose and assigned it to the medical faculty of Columbian College (later became George Washington University). BRIEF: The Haunted Chamber SUMMARY: This home is haunted by the spirits of a man and a woman. They have been seen many times in one of the rooms. People call that room "The Haunted Chamber". It is unknown their possible relation or reason for haunting.
