BRIEF: The Rectory of St. John's Huntingdon is known to be haunted SUMMARY: The Rectory of St. John's Huntingdon is known to be haunted. People who have practiced playing its organ have experienced strange things, sometimes late night or early morning, including an intense, almost palpable "watched" feeling. But of course no one else was physically present. Those who were creeped out and left felt "escorted to the door" by whatever presence they were sensing. BRIEF: Varied uses over long time endears many ghosts. SUMMARY: The Carroll County Farm Museum has a farmhouse from the 1800's. The museum has a number of trade building that highlight and demonstrate what life was like in the early 19th century. The museum consists of 142 acres.
Carroll County was created in 1837 by an act of state legislature which made Westminster the County Seat. The legislature built a number of government buildings, including an almshouse for the poor which was built between 1852 and 1853. The Almshouse was called the County Home. The Almshouse purpose was to house the poor people of Carroll County. People who were insane or criminals also stayed at the Almshouse. For the insane, the the rooms had barred windows and metal-lined walls. The foundation stone was laid in 1907 but the work was not completed until September 29, 1990, 83 years later. A lot can happen in that time. BRIEF: "to collect pathological specimens along with their case histories" SUMMARY: The Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) was founded as the Army Medical Museum on May 21, 1862, to collect pathological specimens along with their case histories. The information from the case files of the pathological specimens from the Civil War was compared with Army pensions records and compiled into the six-volume Medical and Surgical History of the War of the Rebellion, an early study of wartime medicine.
