BRIEF: Death always rings thrice SUMMARY: The Tudor Hall House is over two hundred and fifty years old. This house was the home of the Key family, relatives of Francis Scott Key, the man who wrote the Star Spangled Banner.
The Key family owned a large grandfather clock that reportedly only chimed (thrice) when a member of the key family perished. BRIEF: Wiggly and wily and wild. SUMMARY: A Giant Snake has been known to live in the forest area of Rocks.
Rocks has unique rock formations located along the banks of Deer Creek. The area is known to be haunted by a Giant Snake. BRIEF: Death and drowning... SUMMARY: The Loy's Station covered bridge was built around 1860 by the Loy family. The family owned the feed mill and post office at Loy's Station, which was a small community with a railroad station.
The original bridge was modified in 1929. New steel beams were installed to replace the original wooden beams and the lateral bracing under the wooden floor. The bridge was destroyed by arson in 1991. Volunteers restored the bridge using timbers salvaged from the old bridge.
During the Civil War the Union and Confederate Armies marched through Frederick and Thurmont on their way to Gettysburg and Antietam. Many small skirmishes took place around Frederick and Thurmont. The soldiers often camped near covered bridges for protective cover and usually water for their horses.
The covered bridges are reportedly haunted by the soldiers who died there and by people that drowned in the water below.
The bridge is located on Old Frederick Road, in Creagerstown.
