The corner where the Supreme Court is located was once the site of the Old Capitol Building: large, brick, and haunted. It was used temporarily to house employees of the Capitol during repair of fire damage inflicted in the War of 1812. BRIEF: Double trouble. Avoid being seen. SUMMARY: Every 13 years on Halloween you can hear two boys screaming and hear a vinegar barrel hitting the lake. Supposedly, the first person the two ghosts see is the one they haunt for 13 years. BRIEF: Apparition of Dangerfield Newby still wonders Hog Alley SUMMARY: The first man to be killed in John Brown's Raid on Harper's Ferry was a free black man named Dangerfield Newby. He was killed by a spike being driven through his throat. He joined Brown's army in hopes of freeing his family from bondage in Virginia. His ghost is still seen walking down Hog Alley. He is dressed in baggy trousers and an old hat, and he has a terrible scar running down his throat.
