BRIEF: Halloween tours and apparitions SUMMARY: Built by Confederate POW labor when Washington was threatened by Confederate General Early's raid, and a prison break was feared. It is the only surviving fortification of three that guarded Camp Hoffman (2), the stockaded POW camp established in 1863. It is a small four-sided earthen fort with four reconstructed buildings, and the remains of a powder magazine. It is located on the Potomac River side of the peninsula. The war ended before construction was complete. BRIEF: Long gone and submerged, some spirits remain. SUMMARY: The intentional joining of three major streams formed Lake Roland, the Jones Falls, Roland Run, and the Towson Run. The streams were brought together in the late 1800's. The lakes were formed to build a water supply for Baltimore City. BRIEF: Multigenerational Home of Todd family, involved in War of 1812. SUMMARY: Todd's House is known as Todd's Inheritance.
Thomas Todd settled there in 1664 with his wife and children from Gloucester County, Virginia. "There" was located between the tip of Edgemere's Miller's Island and the peninsula where Fort Howard sits. For over three centuries the descendants of the Todd family have lived in the home. That's as much prolonged, concentrated history as anyone in this country, except for of course the Indians.
