It began as a joke, a midnight dare among teenagers.
Actually, it began decades before that, centuries and maybe eons. It was a matter of geography and happenstance that the B&O Railroad tracks traveled in Germantown, Maryland through a couple of miles through a sort of valley of rough terrain and high embankments on either side of the tracks. It is the residence once owned and occupied by Annie Oakley as a primary and permanent residence.
Annie's house was built on land that she purchased in 1912. She moved into the house in 1913. Annie built the house as a retirement home for her and her husband, Frank Butler. Annie Oakley lived there from 1913 to 1917.
Annie got her fame as a member of the "Buffalo Bill's Wild West" travelling road show. She was world-renowned as a marksman. Her path to there was long, twisting and difficult. BRIEF: Early Church ruin and Cemetery on Maryland's Eastern Shore more active that it appears SUMMARY: Located on the Eastern shore of Maryland in Talbot County, the Whitemarsh Church ruins and Cemetery dating to the mid 1600s is a monument to Maryland's earliest days and also possible home to the spirits of it's early citizens.
